Right after Christmas, I happened to read an interesting Vice article about how relatively easy it would be for the world to supplant Facebook's stranglehold on our online personal lives by returning to tried and true methods of digital communication, namely good ol' emails to your friends and your personal website as your space for sharing aspects of your life.
The article easily resonated with me. I enjoyed sharing my world through my blog for years before any social media came along, and I dare say that, overall, I was much happier when my personal website was the primary means of communicating with the world.
So, I'm going to give that a try. Sure, I might post links to my articles, videos, and whatever else I post on my social media profiles, but I strongly feel like I should no longer make those places the basis of the things I create. If you feel that way, too, maybe you should join me. Even if you never had a personal website before. Go set up something on Squarespace or Wix and get after it. I'll bet you'll feel better.
